Usain Bolt is facing a financial scandal after $12.8 million mysteriously disappeared from his investment account with a Jamaican firm now under investigation. With authorities probing alleged fraud and legal action on the table, the sprinting legend is fighting to recover his lost fortune
Usain Bolt, the eight-time Olympic gold medalist, is facing a financial crisis after discovering that $12.8 million is missing from his investment account with a Jamaican financial firm currently under police and government investigation.
Authorities in Jamaica began looking into allegations of fraud at Stocks & Securities Ltd (SSL) after receiving multiple complaints on January 11.
Among those affected is Bolt, whose account balance reportedly dropped to just over $12,000 under unclear circumstances, according to Selvin Hay, Chief Technical Director of Jamaica’s Financial Investigations Division.
An inquiry is now underway, led by the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Fraud Squad and the Financial Investigations Division.
Bolt’s attorney, Linton Gordon, sent a formal request to SSL demanding an explanation and the return of the missing funds. The retired sprinter, who has not made any transactions from the account, is considering legal action if the money is not recovered.

Ricky Simms, Bolt’s agent, confirmed that an investigation into alleged fraud at SSL is ongoing but could not verify the exact amount missing from Bolt’s account.
The investment firm has not provided any response to requests for comment.
Jamaica’s Financial Services Commission (FSC) announced on Tuesday that it had taken temporary control of SSL to oversee its operations. During a press briefing, FSC Executive Director Everton McFarlane stated that the suspected fraud was carried out by an employee in a client management role. He emphasized that while fraud risks exist in all financial institutions, this particular case appears to be an isolated but serious breach.
SSL released a statement on January 12 acknowledging the discovery of fraudulent activity linked to a former employee and confirmed that the matter had been handed over to law enforcement.
Bolt, who retired from competitive athletics in 2017, is widely regarded as one of the greatest sprinters of all time.
He won gold medals at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympic Games and still holds world records in the 100 meters (9.58 seconds) and 200 meters (19.19 seconds), both set in 2009 at the World Championships in Berlin.
