Discover how Italian marathoner Lorenzo Lotti set a Guinness World Record by running 100 kilometers while pushing a stroller—with his 7-month-old son inside!
Lorenzo Lotti, a 38-year-old from Predappio (Forlì-Cesena, Italy), took on the challenge with a clear goal: to beat the previous record of just over 9 hours.
His performance at the Tidewater Strider Dismal Swamp 100K shattered the record with a time of 8 hours, 1 minute, and 40 seconds. This achievement follows his previous stroller-pushing success in a 50-kilometer race with his first son, Raimondo.
Preparation and Conditions
The race began under freezing conditions, with temperatures at -7°C (19°F). However, Lorenzo ensured Rodolfo’s safety and comfort by using proper thermal gear for both the baby and the stroller.
Remarkably, Rodolfo slept for seven of the eight hours during the race, Lorenzo Lotti dedicating only 10-15 minutes to attend to his son’s needs, such as feeding.
For Lorenzo, this record wasn’t just about speed; it was a deeply emotional experience. “It was a beautiful experience with indescribable emotions” he shared, emphasizing the joy of crossing the finish line with his son.
A Storied Career
Lorenzo's running career is filled with accolades, including a victory at the 2018 Catania Marathon (2h 34’04’’) and a top Italian finish at the New York City Marathon. Despite these personal achievements, Lorenzo holds a special place in his heart for the races he completes with his children.
“The most beautiful finish lines,” he says, “are the ones crossed with my kids.”
Beyond the Track
When he’s not breaking records, Lorenzo directs his company, Sempre di corsa (“Always Running”), which offers online coaching services for professional and amateur athletes.
His journey is also chronicled in his book of the same name, which highlights his dedication to the sport and his passion for inspiring others.
