From marathons to 5Ks, some famous faces have posted impressive times in 2024. Mark Zuckerberg’s recent performance might just be the most surprising of them all!

Running is more popular than ever, with an explosion of run clubs and massive demand for major races. Celebrities aren’t just spectators, they’re hitting the pavement, too.

While marathon times often steal the spotlight, shorter races like the 5K offer a great way to test speed and endurance.

Throughout the year, several well-known figures laced up their running shoes, sometimes under aliases, to take on the 5K distance.

Some put up seriously competitive times, proving that their athletic skills extend beyond their primary professions.

Let’s take a look at some of the most impressive celebrity 5K performances of 2024.

The CEO of Meta, best known for leading the social media empire, has been steadily improving as a runner. Competing under a pseudonym at the Stanford Medicine My Heart Counts 5K, Zuckerberg clocked an impressive 20:58, securing a top-10 finish in his age group.

This was slightly slower than his 19:34 performance from the previous year, but there’s a reason for that, he was just five months removed from ACL surgery.

Given the circumstances, his run stands out as one of the most remarkable among celebrities in 2024.

Travis Barker – 20:27

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has been embracing endurance sports in a big way. After completing his first half marathon in 2:12:22, he went on to launch his own Run Travis Run 5K series.

Barker participated in both events in the series, running 22:12 in Los Angeles before shaving his time down to 20:27 in New York. He’s using his platform to promote fitness and encourage fans to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

Jelly Roll – Completed His First 5K

Country-rap star Jelly Roll set a personal goal of completing a 5K in 2024. While his finishing time wasn’t officially recorded, his participation in the 2 Bears 5K, hosted by comedians Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer, marked a major milestone.

He admitted he couldn’t run a mile when he first started training, making his accomplishment all the more meaningful.

Next on his list? A half marathon in 2025.

The world-famous DJ has a growing reputation in the running community. After making headlines for completing the Los Angeles Marathon in under four hours while reportedly tripping on acid, Diplo launched his own Diplo’s Run Club 5K series.

He ran 23:38 in San Francisco and then improved to 23:04 in Seattle—proving that he’s not just about the post-race DJ sets.

Zdeno Chara – 22:33

At 6’9”, former NHL defenseman Zdeno Chara stands out in any race. Since retiring from professional hockey, he has transitioned into endurance sports, completing marathons and even an Ironman. At the Camp Harbor View 5K, Chara posted a solid 22:33, showcasing his athletic versatility.

Conclusion

The 5K may not get as much attention as the marathon, but it’s still a challenging and rewarding race distance. Celebrities from all walks of life, tech moguls, musicians, athletes, and influencers, are embracing running, proving that it’s a sport for everyone.

Mark Zuckerberg’s post-injury comeback, Travis Barker’s race series, and Jelly Roll’s personal achievement highlight the many different ways stars are pushing themselves on the road.
